A practical answer

Steel surface, outlet-free placement or separate cat records?

A steel surface, no nearby outlet, or separate cat records?

These are three different reasons to buy a fountain. A model that solves one can leave another unmet. The PIXI with steel top, Easy Clean Flower, Dockstream 2 Cordless and Dockstream RFID make a useful comparison because their practical differences are larger than a color or filter bundle.

For a steel drinking top and a simple plugged-in routine

The Catit PIXI with stainless steel top 43720 is the direct candidate when the visible drinking surface and a documented dishwasher-safe top matter. It uses continuous plugged-in circulation and does not require an app for that normal role. The two-liter reservoir and remaining non-steel parts still need their own cleaning.

Its limitation is equally clear: the metal top does not create a battery-powered fountain or individual drinking records. If an outlet is conveniently available and those features are unnecessary, that can be a sensible exchange for a straightforward water station.

For carrying the reservoir to the sink

The Catit Easy Clean Flower 43621 targets a different chore. The tank lifts from a dry motor base, while a wet impeller remains part of the cleaning routine. It offers a shallow surface that retains water when off and three presentations selected by the flower parts.

Choose it when that refill and cleaning layout is more useful than a steel top or app. It is a plugged-in two-liter model. Its “pumpless” reservoir does not mean there are no moving wet parts, and changing the flower pieces does not add sensor activation.

For placement away from an outlet with single-pet records

The Dockstream 2 Cordless PLWF116 combines a rechargeable power configuration with app intake records intended for one pet. It offers sensor or continuous flow. The up-to-30-day battery claim applies to a fully charged unit with one pet in sensor mode; it is not a continuous-flow endurance promise.

This is the relevant comparison when outlet-free placement is essential and the single-pet recording arrangement fits. Check the documented washing restrictions before buying it for dishwasher convenience. The PLWF116 starter configuration adds a splash shield and filter stock; it does not add RFID identification.

For identifying several cats at the station

The Dockstream RFID PLWF305 uses compatible collar tags and the specified shield to support individual records. Two tags are included; support for up to five cats requires additional compatible tags. It is a corded model, and each participating cat needs the intended tag arrangement.

It does not read an implanted microchip or an arbitrary tag from another brand. The manufacturer also warns about possible interference with some other brands' microchip-feeder readers. Check the whole household setup, not just the fountain. Adding several profiles to a non-RFID fountain does not provide the same identification.

Choose the compromise deliberately

Start with the requirement that would rule a model out. Steel-top cleaning points toward the PIXI; tank handling may favor Easy Clean; outlet-free placement points toward the appropriate battery configuration; individual multi-cat records require compatible identification. Then check capacity and care. None of these features removes routine inspection, and an app's records are not a diagnosis or a substitute for direct observation.

Choose the daily drinking and cleaning routine.
