A useful fit for

Individual observations in a multi-cat home when each cat can use a compatible paired tag and the restricted drinking approach.

The main tradeoff

It supports 2.4 GHz only and requires compatible tags, not implanted microchips. Two tags are supplied; the five-cat maximum requires more tags when needed.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can I require a steel drinking surface and records attributed to at least two cats using compatible paired tags?

Yes. Two tags are supplied; the system supports up to five cats when additional compatible tags are provided. The shield must be installed for one-at-a-time use.

Can I require support for both 2.4 and 5 GHz Wi-Fi?

No. The exact PLWF305 supports only 2.4 GHz.

The PETLIBRO Dockstream RFID Smart Fountain PLWF305 is aimed at households that need drinking records attributed to different cats. Its collar-tag system is a substantive difference from a fountain that reports changes at one shared reservoir. The compromise is equally substantive: compatible tags, the supplied splash shield, app setup and a suitable 2.4 GHz network are part of the intended process.

Identification needs the right collar tags

The current exact-model page says it can track up to five cats and lists two RFID collar tags in the box. Monitoring more than those two requires additional compatible tags; the maximum is not the number already supplied. Pair and assign each tag in the app according to the guide.

This reader does not use implanted microchips or other makers' tags. PETLIBRO also warns that its tag can affect the operation of some other brands' microchip readers. Check any existing feeder arrangement before adding another collar tag. A cat already carrying a microchip is not automatically equipped for this fountain's identification method.

The shield supports one-at-a-time use

The official FAQ says the splash shield needs to be installed so pets drink one at a time. That physical arrangement is part of the attribution process, not merely an optional decorative guard. Consider whether the approach suits how the cats use a shared station, and observe the setup after installation.

The documented method is RFID-activated. A generic phrase such as water available around the clock should not be read as an affirmative continuous-flow mode without tags. If simple uninterrupted flow is the priority and individual attribution is unnecessary, compare a different actual process such as the Catit Steel Flower.

It is a corded, 2.4 GHz configuration

The US guide and product page identify a 3-liter PLWF305 with corded power and 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. They do not establish battery operation or 5 GHz support. Choose a position with a suitable outlet, network coverage and a level surface. Route the cable through the underside slot as instructed so it does not interfere with monitoring.

If the intended location has no power socket, the Dockstream 2 Cordless solves that placement problem but does not automatically identify several cats. A software profile or subscription cannot create the missing reader hardware. These are different tradeoffs rather than interchangeable upgrades.

The water path still needs cleaning

The motor sits in the base while a rotor and pipe remain part of the removable wet assembly. PETLIBRO calls the reservoir pump-free; water still circulates through mechanical components. The drinking tray is steel above an ABS tank, not an all-steel system.

The guide's care section specifically allows only the stainless steel tray in the dishwasher and excludes the water tank. A later general safety line broadly excludes parts, so we apply the explicit component-specific exception and do not extend it to the base, rotor or tank. Wipe the base rather than washing electrical components.

Records help observation, not diagnosis

The app records drinking amount, frequency and duration for identified pets. Treat those as household observations with setup conditions, not a clinical measurement or explanation for a change in behavior. The assessment has not independently tested attribution or intake accuracy.

PETLIBRO recommends regular pump cleaning and filter replacement, with its guide specifying a two-week routine and earlier attention as needed. Inspect water, flow and the shield rather than waiting for software to prove everything is satisfactory. When using several RFID fountains or a compatible feeder, follow the manufacturer's stated separation guidance.

This review interprets the exact official page and visually read PLWF305 guide without hands-on or medical claims. Find a steel-surface setup for individually identified cats. The matching plan assumes each cat uses a compatible paired tag, with extra tags purchased when required.

Key details at a glance

Reservoir and capacity limitsExact PLWF305 product and guide specify 3 L. Capacity does not establish an unattended care interval.
Power arrangementCorded main fountain with supplied adapter input 100–240 V AC, 50/60 Hz and output 5 V, 1 A. No rechargeable plan is established.
Water flow and conditionsRFID-activated drinking setup with the supplied shield installed for one-at-a-time use. Do not turn around-the-clock availability into an unsupported untagged continuous-flow claim.
Drinking surface and wet partsSteel drinking tray over ABS tank, with motor in the base and wet rotor/pipe in the lift-off assembly. This is not an all-steel water path.
Cleaning and source limitationsGuide care printed page 7 specifically permits only the steel tray in a dishwasher and excludes the tank. Apply that narrow component exception despite a later generic exclusion. Keep the electrical base dry and clean pump/filter regularly.
App and observation limitsUp to five cats with compatible paired PETLIBRO tags; two tags supplied. Additional tags are needed beyond the supplied pair. Implanted microchips and other makers' tags do not qualify; check compatibility with other readers.

Use the exact model’s instructions for operating limits, supplied equipment and version differences.
