Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Can I have at least four liters of nominal capacity, continuous outlet flow and automatic low-water shutdown?
Yes. The 140 oz US configuration has about 4.14 liters of nominal capacity, and the exact shared guide documents outlet-powered bubbling and low-water pump shutdown.
Explore this need in the finder →Can the main fountain operate on its own rechargeable battery?
No documented rechargeable main-unit setup meets that requirement. Its guide connects the pump cord to an external adaptor and outlet.
Explore this need in the finder →Is a drinking-area nightlight expressly documented?
Not confirmed. The blue and red pump LED is documented as operating and low-water status, without a nightlight declaration.
Explore this need in the finder →The 140 oz Viva supplies the larger reservoir in PetSafe's current US Viva family. It is a useful choice when you want more water available between routine checks while keeping a simple outlet-powered bubbler. The extra volume changes the refill and handling routine; it does not add a battery, drinking records or a stainless-steel tray.
More than twice the named water capacity
PWW00-17922 is the 140 oz plastic configuration. Its advertised capacity is approximately 4.14 liters when converted from US fluid ounces, compared with approximately 1.89 liters for either 64 oz Viva. That is more than twice the nominal stored water, but it is not a statement about how many cats it supports for a fixed number of days.
A larger reservoir can suit a busier drinking station, provided you are comfortable lifting, emptying and cleaning the larger bowl. Water still needs direct inspection and regular replenishment. The low-water cutoff is a useful limit, rather than a substitute for someone checking the fountain's water and condition.
Choose this version for capacity, not for a material implied by another Viva listing. The stainless-tray model in the current US selector is 64 oz. The 64 oz plastic Viva is the smaller same-surface alternative. Check the capacity-and-material combination attached to the exact SKU.
The larger bowl keeps the same power routine
The quick-start guide covers both reservoir sizes and shows the pump inside the bowl, connected by its cord to an external adaptor. Plugging that arrangement into an outlet powers continuous bubbling through the center of the tray. The cable passes through the bowl's tube and out through the base notch; the silicone cap must be fitted as instructed to hold it and prevent leaks at that opening.
A physical flow-control knob on the pump lets you change the amount of bubbling. PetSafe starts with the highest setting during setup. The control is accessed at the pump, rather than through an app or a button on the front window. Consider that assembly routine if you expect to experiment with how much movement your cat prefers.
USB describes the power connection. The original instructions do not establish a rechargeable main-unit or backup-battery setup for this model. If positioning away from an outlet is essential, compare a documented battery fountain and check its actual battery flow mode. For example, the HydroSphere Cordless uses sensor flow on battery, a different behavior from this continuously powered Viva.
Low-water status is local, not an intake record
The blue pump LED is visible through the water window when the unit operates. If the water becomes low, the pump shuts off and the light glows red. The maker says the pump restarts after refilling. Use the fill line when adding water rather than trying to squeeze in an assumed extra amount above the stated working level.
The window and light help with physical checks at the fountain. They do not show which cat drank, the amount consumed or whether several cats shared the water. A larger bowl does not change that information limit. Someone who specifically needs attributed drinking records should choose a documented identification setup separately.
The pump still needs its own cleaning
PetSafe permits the bowl, pump housing and drinking tray on the top dishwasher rack. The pump is hand washed after removing its faceplate, stator and magnetic impeller. The adaptor does not go in the dishwasher. Plan space for the larger wet pieces and a careful emptying routine; the cleaning article recommends tilting back slightly so tray water drains through its vent into the bowl.
The normal guide is cleaning every two to four weeks, with more frequent attention as needed in multiple-pet households. Replace the carbon-and-ion-exchange filter every two to four weeks and the foam filter every one to two months. Do not put soap in the filters. Larger capacity does not extend those maintenance intervals by the same ratio as the extra water.
Who benefits from the larger Viva?
Choose it when the nominal 140 oz volume, plastic tray and continuous outlet-powered flow fit your household, and the larger bowl is convenient to empty and wash. Choose a 64 oz version when less stored water is sufficient, or the smaller steel-tray model when the drinking surface matters more than maximum volume. The best fit is the configuration whose power, surface and maintenance routine you can comfortably keep using.

Key details at a glance
| Reservoir and capacity limits | 140 US fluid oz nominal capacity, approximately 4.14 L. Numeric matching uses the stated US fluid-volume conversion. Follow the MAX fill line; capacity does not promise days between checks. |
|---|---|
| Power arrangement | Outlet-powered pump and external adaptor are the documented setup. The pump cord passes through the bowl tube and silicone cap. USB power is not a verified rechargeable main-unit or backup-battery arrangement. |
| Water flow and conditions | Continuous center bubbling while outlet powered. A physical flow-control knob on the pump changes the amount of bubbling; the setup guide starts with the highest setting. |
| Drinking surface and wet parts | Plastic drinking tray in the exact selected configuration; separate bowl, pump housing and filters still require cleaning. |
| Cleaning and source limitations | Bowl, pump housing and tray have top-rack dishwasher permission. Pump is opened and hand cleaned; adaptor stays out. Clean every two to four weeks and as needed; replace carbon/ion-exchange filter every two to four weeks and foam every one to two months. Keep soap out of filters. |
| App and observation limits | Blue and red pump LED signals operating and low-water status. App intake records, individual attribution, direct Wi-Fi and a drinking-area nightlight are not documented. |
