A useful fit for

More nominal water capacity than the 60 oz model while retaining the clear-tray drinking layout and local status reminders.

The main tradeoff

Its normal flow requires an outlet. Nighttime speed reduction is not approach-triggered dispensing, and local LEDs do not establish intake tracking.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Does the outlet-powered setup meet a minimum nominal reservoir capacity of 2.5 liters?

Yes. The 90 US fluid-ounce label converts to about 2.66 liters; the guide uses the supplied USB cable and wall adaptor. Capacity does not establish refill intervals.

Does it meet a minimum nominal capacity of 3.5 liters?

No. Its nominal 90 US fluid ounces is about 2.66 liters.

Can I require a pet-approach sensor flow mode?

That mode is not established. The documented automatic response slows the motor in a dark room; it does not turn flow on when a cat approaches.

The PetSafe Outlast 90 oz keeps the clear drinking-tray arrangement of the smaller Outlast while adding nominal reservoir capacity. The exact US model is PWW00-17258. It is a useful comparison for a household that likes ongoing circulation and a removable water assembly but does not need drinking records, collar identification or a rechargeable fountain. Its main distinction is the dry motor base driving a wet rotating cone.

More water without changing to the open-bowl model

Ninety US fluid ounces converts to approximately 2.66 liters. That makes it a larger nominal reservoir than the 60 oz Outlast, but it does not establish a particular number of cats or days without inspection. Water use, spills and evaporation vary, and the level needs regular checking regardless of the model chosen.

The clear tray remains part of the 90 oz setup. PetSafe's shared guide specifically assigns trays to the 60 and 90 oz models, while the 128 oz version has a different open-bowl layout. If you want extra capacity while retaining a tray-style surface, that is a reason to consider the 90 rather than choosing the largest number automatically.

A rotating cone replaces the submerged pump arrangement

The base contains the electrical motor; the cone in the water assembly rotates to lift water into the tower and out through the spout. There is no submerged electrical pump to pull apart. The cone, spout and other wet parts still collect residue and need care, so the useful change is access and separation of parts, not permission to leave the fountain unwashed.

When the bowl has been removed, the base and its electronics stay behind. Never rinse that base or immerse it in a sink. Fully seat the cleaned bowl and cone when assembling again, and secure the tower lid. If water flow is poor, checking assembly and the actual level is more appropriate than assuming a filter light has diagnosed the cause.

Flow follows power and room light

This is a plugged-in fountain using the supplied USB cable and wall adaptor. Plan for an outlet within the guide's six-foot placement range. A pump described as pumpless or separate from the water does not establish battery operation. If avoiding an outlet is essential, compare a documented battery setup such as the PETLIBRO Dockstream 2 instead.

The Outlast circulates during normal operation and slows slightly when the room becomes dark. It speeds up again in daytime. This does not mean that a passing cat triggers water, and it is not the timed on/off arrangement offered by some rechargeable fountains. Think of it as circulation with an automatic nighttime speed adjustment.

Washing permission applies after separating the base

Remove the filter before washing. The guide permits dishwasher cleaning of the non-base fountain parts, with top-rack permission in the product information. The clear tray and bowl can be cleaned away from the electrical base. This is useful if cleaning an immersed pump's small passages is the part of fountain ownership you find most awkward.

The recommended cleaning interval is every two to four weeks or as needed. A household with more hair or visible debris may need attention sooner. Inspect the tray and water during refills rather than treating a calendar interval as a guarantee. Rinse the replacement filter as instructed, seat it in the tower slot and rebuild the cone, spout and lid in the correct order.

Local reminders are deliberately simpler than intake tracking

The blue filter reminder is a three-week timer. Reset it after replacing the filter by holding the button for ten seconds. The status button is underneath the tower on the dry base, so lift the bowl to reach it. You may choose whether the normal blue status light stays on, but a status LED should not be mistaken for a separately documented drinking-area nightlight.

The steady red warning means water is low; the motor stops when the fountain runs dry and restarts after refilling to the marked line. These local warnings do not identify which animal drank or measure an individual intake. Compare the PETLIBRO RFID model when individual attribution is actually needed.

Choose the Outlast 90 for a middle-capacity tray layout and washable lift-off water parts, with a dry motor base and an outlet nearby. Choose the 60 if a smaller reservoir suits the routine, or examine the 128 oz open-bowl arrangement for a different shared drinking layout. Extra capacity is useful only if you will still inspect, refill and clean it consistently.

Key details at a glance

Reservoir and capacity limits90 US fluid ounces nominal capacity, approximately 2.66 liters after unit conversion rounded down to two decimals. This is not a measured usable-water volume or a promise of days between checks.
Power arrangementThe supplied USB cable and wall adaptor power the separate dry base. The setup guide places the fountain within 6 feet of an outlet; no rechargeable operating plan is documented.
Water flow and conditionsContinuous normal circulation from a rotating cone, with slightly slower motor speed when the room is dark. This is not pet-approach sensing or a timed dispensing schedule.
Drinking surface and wet partsThe 90 oz configuration retains the clear tray over the bowl; the 128 oz guide omits that tray. A specific drinking-surface material grade is not established by the read US documentation.
Cleaning and source limitationsRemove the filter and lift the bowl off the base before washing. Non-base fountain parts have top-rack dishwasher permission. The electrical base is not waterproof and must not be rinsed or submerged. Clean every two to four weeks or as needed; the filter reminder is a 21-day timer.
App and observation limitsLocal red/blue indications concern water level, a filter timer and motor condition. App intake records or individual-cat identification are not established. The normal blue status light is not assumed to be a drinking-area nightlight.

Use the exact model’s instructions for operating limits, supplied equipment and version differences.
