Cleaning and power
Dry motor bases and wireless pumps: what actually lifts off?
A fountain can have a cable-free pump connection and still contain electrical parts in its water tank. A different design can leave the motor in a dry base while wet mechanical parts lift away. Those arrangements change cleaning, but neither description alone tells you whether the whole fountain runs from a battery.
For a dry motor base and dishwasher-permitted wet parts
The PetSafe Outlast 90 oz keeps the motor and electronics in a separate dry base. A cone in the removable water assembly moves the water. Remove the filter and lift off the bowl before washing; the non-base fountain parts have dishwasher permission, with the product specifying the top rack. The base is not waterproof and must not be rinsed.
This suits someone whose least convenient maintenance job is opening a submerged pump. The cone, spout, bowl and clear drinking tray still need cleaning, and the bowl and cone must seat correctly after reassembly. Outlast therefore changes which parts are washed and where the motor sits; it does not remove the cleaning routine.
Choose capacity separately. The 60 oz and 90 oz versions have a clear tray, while the 128 oz uses an open bowl. The larger number does not simply describe the same drinking surface over a taller hidden tank.
For a dry motor base with a different care schedule
The Catit Easy Clean 43621 is another useful comparison. Its motor stays in the base and a removable wet rotor still needs care. The exact configuration has a two-liter reservoir and a documented nightlight. Its source instructions call for frequent cleaning and rinsing, including attention to the impeller and opening.
Dishwasher permission is not established for that exact model in this library. Do not transfer the Outlast's washing permission just because both separate the motor from the water assembly. Likewise, a shared word such as pumpless does not establish that a connector, gasket or rotor can be cleaned in the same way. Compare the exact maintenance steps you are prepared to repeat.
For battery placement and a steel tray
The PETKIT EverSweet Max 2 UVC P4116 provides a different tradeoff. It has a documented rechargeable interval setup and a steel drinking tray, but its wireless electrical pump remains in the wet assembly. It does not satisfy a requirement that the lift-off reservoir contain only wet mechanical parts.
Its supplied electrical control module and base require separate care. The fact that named removable parts have dishwasher permission does not make the entire assembled fountain dishwasher safe. Its documented battery operation also differs from wired continuous circulation, so choose the power and flow arrangement together rather than borrowing a mode from another setup.
Night behavior is a separate question
Outlast slows its motor slightly when the room is dark. That is not pet-approach triggering, timed dispensing or a drinking-area nightlight. Its optional blue light is a local status indication. The Catit Easy Clean's documented nightlight is a different feature, while the PETKIT comparison needs its own battery-versus-wired mode check.
For the questionnaire, use lift-off electrical separation when cleaning access is essential, dishwasher permission for the actual drinking component when that matters, and battery operation only when the main fountain's battery setup is documented. Add a capacity requirement after choosing the routine. A larger reservoir can support your preferred refill pattern, but it never replaces checking the actual water and operation.
