A useful fit for

A household that wants a larger confirmed reservoir, a steel drinking surface and battery-powered sensor or interval operation.

The main tradeoff

Continuous circulation requires a separate 5 V, 1 A adapter, and the manual calls for regular filter, reservoir, sponge and pump care.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can I put a 5 L steel-surface fountain where there is no outlet and use timed flow?

Yes. The charged #43761 battery supports timed flow, and the manual specifies 5 L plus a stainless-steel drinking tray. Catit states up to 45 days in timed mode; check level and filter rather than treating that as an unattended interval.

Can I require uninterrupted continuous circulation while using the battery?

No. Continuous flow is only documented while plugged into a compatible USB adapter; battery operation is sensor or timed.

Do stainless-steel dishwasher-safe parts and supplied UV-C clarification coexist on this model?

Yes. The 43761 manual says stainless-steel parts are dishwasher-safe and identifies UV-C in the electronic unit. This does not make the electronic parts dishwasher-safe or turn UV-C into a medical treatment.

The Catit PIXI Stainless Steel UV-C Drinking Fountain (#43761) pairs a 5 L reservoir with a rechargeable battery, a small status screen and three different water-flow patterns. Its real distinction from the familiar 2 L PIXI models is not simply a steel top: the larger model can run in sensor-triggered or timed mode on its battery, while continuous circulation requires a power connection. If you want flexible placement and can keep up with the more involved cleaning routine, those are useful choices to have. They are not a promise that a full reservoir can be left unchecked.

Choose the operating mode before choosing the spot

The exact manual describes a 4,000 mAh built-in battery. Sensor mode starts water for about 12 seconds when a cat or dog approaches; timed mode runs for 12 seconds every 15 minutes. Catit says timed-mode battery operation can last up to 45 days on a charge. That is a maker-stated maximum for a particular mode, not a guarantee for sensor use, every home, or the interval between water checks. If your cat is comfortable with either intermittent pattern, the battery lets you put the fountain away from an outlet.

Continuous mode is different: the manual says it is available only while the fountain is plugged in. A USB charging cable is included, but the 5 V, 1 A USB-A adapter is not. If an uninterrupted stream is essential, plan on supplying that adapter and a safe cord route. The questionnaire keeps continuous-on-battery as a mismatch rather than combining that mode with the outlet version.

Five liters with local status, not a refill schedule

The reservoir holds 5 L. Its LCD shows water level, battery status and the active mode; a low-level warning appears below 30 percent. The blue nightlight changes to red when the water is too low. These local indications are easier to check than a hidden reservoir, but they do not refill the tank or determine when your cat needs fresh water. The product page documents a button and LCD, not the remote app controls of the PIXI Smart 43751. It also does not document separate-cat intake records.

The stainless-steel tray keeps the drinking surface and much of the reservoir in steel, while the specification also lists PC components and an electronic unit, water sensors, UV-C light and pump in the wet assembly. Only the stainless-steel parts are dishwasher-safe. Treat that as a component-level permission, not permission to machine-wash the whole fountain. If your priority is a simple steel top with fewer electronic features, compare the outlet-powered, 2 L PIXI 43720.

UV-C is an added water-treatment feature, not a medical outcome

The manual places the UV-C light in the electronic unit and says the clarifier operates while water is flowing. The product page describes it as helping reduce bacteria; Catit also says the fountain is not intended to cure disease. Do not treat that feature as a substitute for rinsing, refreshing water, replacing the filter or cleaning the pump. If you mainly want a small app-connected fountain with remote schedules and maintenance notifications, the PIXI Smart 43751 solves a different problem: it needs an outlet and 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, rather than relying on a large rechargeable reservoir.

Maintenance is part of the selection

Catit's manual calls for cleaning the reservoir, filter and filter sponge whenever you add water, a monthly full cleaning, and pump cleaning about every three months. It suggests replacing the filter after about a month of continuous use or sooner if saturated. Soak a new filter for 10 minutes to rinse away loose carbon powder. After cleaning, check the USB-C charging port and DC connections for water and dry them before powering up. Those are manageable chores for someone who already tends a fountain, but they make this a less carefree choice than a plain bowl.

Choose the 43761 if you want a confirmed 5 L tank, steel drinking parts, a battery-backed sensor or interval routine, and are comfortable maintaining the screen-equipped pump assembly. If you require an app, measured intake, dishwasher-safe electronics, or continuous water flow without a power connection, those needs are not established here. This assessment uses Catit's exact product page and #43761 manual; it is not a hands-on test. Find fountains that meet a battery, timed-flow and steel-surface requirement.

Key details at a glance

Reservoir and capacity limitsExact #43761 manual and product page specify 5 L. This is reservoir capacity, not a promise of days without inspection or refill.
