Capacity and refilling
A large fountain label can mean different refill routines
A large capacity label can describe very different daily chores. One fountain may store water in a removable reservoir that tops up a smaller drinking bowl; another may hold most of its water in one open basin. Compare the fill steps, reachable water when the pump stops, cleaning access and placement before treating a bigger number as a longer refill interval.
PetSafe Drinkwell Platinum: refill tank plus falling stream
The current Platinum PWW00-13703 is listed at 168 US fluid ounces, about 4.97 liters by unit conversion. A rear reservoir snaps onto the fountain and replenishes the bowl as water is used. The fountain has one adjustable falling stream, a plastic drinking surface and a wired submersible pump. Its reservoir does not turn the appliance into a gravity station: the maker describes continuous plugged-in operation, and the pump must keep moving water for the stream to run. Read the Platinum assessment if a 5-liter minimum, automatic low-water cutoff or a dry-base pump is essential; those details should not be inferred from the capacity label or removable tank.
Oasys 256 oz: much more nominal water in the fountain
The PetSafe Oasys 256 oz offers the larger named capacity, at about 7.57 liters, in a plastic outlet-powered fountain. Its large footprint and handling may be more important than the added volume for a household that must lift the assembly for cleaning. It does not share the Platinum’s rear removable refill tank simply because both are made by PetSafe. Check the exact Oasys review for the 256-ounce setup and pump routine rather than applying Platinum replacement-part numbers.
Stainless Multi-Pet 128 oz: trade volume for a steel tray
The PetSafe Drinkwell Stainless Steel Multi-Pet PWW00-13705 has a 128-ounce nominal capacity and a stainless drinking tray with multiple customizable stream positions. It may suit a household that cares more about a steel surface and choice of stream placement than matching the Platinum’s larger capacity. It is not a substitute for the Platinum’s refill reservoir, and its own pump, shared flow path and care instructions need to be reviewed separately. See the Stainless Multi-Pet assessment for the model-specific layout.
Plan the sink trip as well as the refill
For all three choices, the nominal capacity does not say how many hours or days a particular household can leave the station unchecked. Drinking, splashing, evaporation and each manual’s minimum water line matter. A fountain with more gallons can still need frequent visual checks, and a filter interval is not a cleaning interval. Confirm the parts that may go in a dishwasher, the parts that need hand cleaning, and the room needed to disconnect and carry the wet bowl. If your essential need is a no-plug refill, compare a gravity-fed water station instead; passive gravity replenishment is not circulating fountain flow.
